SASSA Grant Alert: Grants Stop After September 15 For Income Above R8,070

SASSA grants an alert: starting on the first day of October 2025, all grants for recipients whose complete monthly earning (all sources combined) surpasses R8,070 will be terminated. This change affects income tested grants like the Older Persons, Disability and War Veteran’s grant. It indicates the agency’s more stringent check on income eligibility.

Who Is Affected and Why?

Some grants will not be affected. Although income tested grants such as the Older Persons and Disability grants will be affected, other grants like the Child Support and Foster Child grants are not expected to be affected. Anyone who has income from part-time jobs, pension funds, investments, and even the informal sector (or a mix of any income sources) should be worried if their aggregate monthly income is more than R8,070, as this will lead to SASSA suspending their grant payments.

The economic difficulties we face make the need to use social assistance funds prudently all the more urgent. The change in policy is consistent with more holistic policies that promote equity and was outlined to show SASSA’s commitment to using social assistance funds wisely.

Immediate Actions Required From Beneficiaries

Map out your monthly income streams and confirm they don’t exceed R8,070 per month. If your current or projected income exceeds this, update your personal and financial information with SASSA through their website, any SASSA branch, or their call centre. If you’ve been marked for a compliance review, you may also be required to submit income proof and other documentation. Failure to comply may result in an indefinite suspension of the grant. Taking the right steps now will secure your financial support.

How To Continue Receiving Support

Keep Track of Income: Record all informal work and side jobs.

  • Notify SASSA Promptly: Update your income and contact information.
  • Provide Required Paperwork: Be ready to submit income or unemployment proof.
  • Avoid Payment Disruptions: Ignoring these rules could lead to payment suspension or termination.
