SASSA September 2025 Grant Payments: Dates And Collection Details

In September 2025, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offers social security grants to all beneficiaries and publishes the official payment calendar for the same grants. The dates for each type of grant are as follows:

  • Old Age Grant: Tuesday, 2nd of September 2025
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3rd of September 2025
  • Other Grants (including Child Support, Foster Care, Care Dependency, and Social Relief of Distress (SRD)): Thursday, 4th of September 2025

Payments in Instalments for Better Convenience

The days of payment are separated to reduce the amount of people trying to access funds at the same time at the pay points, thus making it easier for SASSA and the retail partners to operate. Beneficiaries must not feel pressured to withdraw all the funds on the first day.

Thus, They Can:

  • Withdraw funds little by little as the need arises
  • Use SASSA cards directly at till points to make purchases
  • Such methods assist in reducing queues, enhancing security, and lowering the dangers of carrying too much cash.

Be on the Lookout for Any Unauthorised Deductions

To SASSA, it is particularly important that grant recipients scrutinise their balances for suspicious deductions. The following stipulations are in effect:

Only a single deduction per month is allowed

The deduction can only be up to 10% of the grant

  • It can only be made with the beneficiary’s approval
  • You may visit the closest SASSA office to report the issue, or you may send an SMS with your ID number and the name of the service provider to 34548 to raise a dispute.

Updates on SRD Grants and “Referred” Status

Payments for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grants, designed to support users during difficult periods, were made from 27 to 30 August for the month of August 2025. If your application for SRD shows “Referred” status, this is due to identity verification problems, which requires you to check your details online without delay. Payments, both for the current and previous ones, will be processed in the next payment cycle once the issue is resolved.

Guidelines for Grant Recipients

  • Do not go to withdrawal points before your scheduled payment day.
  • There is no obligation to withdraw the total grant amount in one go; funds not withdrawn will continue to be held in your account.
  • Try to use your SASSA card for purchases to minimize cash transactions.
  • Check your bank statements frequently and report payments that you did not authorize as quickly as you can.
