R1,250 SASSA Foster Child Grant: Applications for the R1,250 Foster Child Grant from SASSA for August 2025 are now officially open. Foster parents stand a chance to be aided to provide adequate care, support, and stability for the children placed in their care by the courts.
For many foster families throughout South Africa, the foster child grant is more than just financial assistance: it is a means through which children who find themselves in vulnerable situations can live with dignity, security, and hope.
What Is The Foster Child Grant?
The SASSA Foster Child Grant is a monthly payment of R1,250 for every foster child. The grant aims to assist foster parents in managing day-to-day expenses of raising a child, including items such as food, clothing, school fees, transport, and medical care.
It acknowledges the acceptance of responsibility by foster parents, and it tries to share with them the load by way of shipment, so that foster children can grow up in a warm and nurturing atmosphere.
Who Qualifies For The Foster Child Grant?
It must be advised, though, that for foster parents to apply for this grant, they must meet the following requirements:
- Being a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee residing in the territory.
- Being an appointed foster parent in terms of the law.
- The child in foster care is under the age of 18.
- A valid court order for foster care must be made available at the point of application.
This grant does not consider a means test like many other SASSA grants: hence, foster parents are not required to prove any income levels to qualify.
